Celebrate Recovery is a biblical and balanced program that has helped people for over 20 years grow toward Christ-like maturity. The 8 Principles are part of the recovery process foundation and are based on the actual words of Jesus found in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1-12).
R Realize I'm not God. I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life has become unmanageable.
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." -Matthew 5:3
E Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to him and that he has the power to help me.
"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." -Matthew 5:4
C Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ's care and control.
"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth." -Matthew 5:5
O Openly examine and confess my faults to God and to another person I trust.
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." -Matthew 5:8
V Voluntarily submit to any and all changes God wants to make in my life and humbly ask him to remove all character defects.
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied."
E Evaluate all my relationships. Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for the harm I've done to others, except when to do so would harm them.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God." -Matthew 5:9
R Reserve a daily time with God for self-examination, Bible reading and prayer in order to know God and his plan for my life and to gain the power to follow his will.
"Blessed are you when others persecute you and utter evil against you falsely on my account."
Y Yield myself to God to be used to bring His goodness to others, both by my example and
by my words.
"Blessed are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires" -Matthew 5:10
